KZN Sharks Board engages adventure enthusiasts at the Caravan Show 27 February – 02 March 2026

On the 27 February 2026 through to 2 March 2026, the KZN Sharks Board had an the opportunity to attend and participate in the Caravan Show in Johannesburg. The event was an excellent platform for engaging with the public, showcasing the work of the Sharks Board, educating the community, and raising awareness about the importance of sharks. The festival was held at the Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand. The centrepiece of our exhibit was a set of shark jaws, which drew significant attention from both children and adults. The jaws served as an effective tool to spark curiosity and interest in sharks. Once visitors were intrigued, we took the opportunity to educate them on the various species of sharks we work with, highlighting their importance in maintaining the health of ocean ecosystems.
This year was exceptionally special as we also got to sell items from our Curio Shop. This was the highlight of our weekend as we were not only able to exhibit our organization but also make money towards our research and business development.

KZN Sharks Board makes waves at the Annual Newcastle Matric Career Expo

The Newcastle Local Municipality hosted a career expo for learners who are currently studying matric in 2026. It was evident that the event was very well planned; a testament to this was the positive turnout among stakeholders. The stakeholders attended the event as exhibitors, providing crucial and valuable information to the learners attending the event.  This event took place from 23 February 2026 – 27 February 2026.

This event provided a great opportunity for the KZN Sharks Board to engage with the Newcastle school learners. During the engagements, we were able to raise awareness on the existence of the KZN Sharks Board, the activities that we do or have to offer to the public.

The KZN Sharks Board provided information on Tourism & Maritime related careers. We distributed our career guidance brochure or pamphlet. Amongst the services that we offer, our Audio Visual and Shark Dissection Show was very popular, especially with the school learners, as they frequently visit ‘Durban’ for their school excursions. We are hoping that with these kinds of engagements, we will note an increase in the number of admissions or visitors that come through our doors.
